Access Statement for Brunswick Holiday Apartments




The apartments are situated in the heart of Ventnor one with one double bedroom, one with two. The apartments are housed on the top floor of a three storey house which is at least 170 years old. The apartments themselves have been created and developed in a contemporary style however there are steps up to apartments, which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.


Pre arrival

  • We are located on the one way system as you come into Ventnor, immediately opposite the Church

  • There is easy access to all the shops located in the town centre, but to get to the esplanade requires a walk down a very steep slope; however there is a bus which goes down to the esplanade during the summer months and car parking on the sea front plus parking places on the esplanade.

  • The nearest railway station is at Shanklin approximately 4 miles away. It is served the number 3 bus to Ventnor and there are and taxis.

  • There are many buses which can take you directly to destinations around the island. All the buses stop in Albert Street and the High Street which is less than 100 yards from the guest house.


Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • Our check in time is from 1630 hours onwards.

  • There is on street parking for which there are no restrictions for disabled users. For those without the blue badge parking is free from 6.00pm until 8.00am the following day. These restrictions apply only from 1st May until 30th September each year. Out of season parking is free and unrestricted.

Main Entrance and reception

  • Access to the apartments is from the pavement and along a passageway at the side of Brunswick House. There are 5 steps to the first landing, a further 14 to a seating area, then 4 more to the main garden deck. From here guests walk up several steps to the rear deck and then on the level to the front door.

  • The front door is locked but guests with the code can access the key safe for the keys for both the communal front door and to the door of the apartment they are renting. There is a small lip to negotiate when stepping over the threshold.                                                                                                                   

Public Areas

  • Each flat is self-contained. However outside is for communal use, this includes the sitting out areas and the barbeque.

  • Brunswick House occupies the first two floors of the building and is for B&B guests only. 

  • It should be noted that this is an old house with uneven and sloping floors. Most of the doors are a standard width, i.e. approximately 80cms. However because of movement over the years they are not all consistently this width throughout their length.


Additional Information

  • Ventnor currently has no facility for digital radio

  • We have Freesat TVs in the lounges and Freeview in the bedrooms

  • Mobile phone reception is variable. The owners use 02 without problem in Ventnor however to the west as far as Blackgang Chine reception of any mobile phones can be variable.

  • In the event of evacuation guests must exit the property and assemble on the main decking area to the side of the house. Call points and fire alarms are in place and working. If you hear the alarm you must leave the building at the nearest safe exit.

  • Smoking is NOT allowed anywhere in the building, however the smoking is allowed in the external communal areas
